COR is fast becoming mandatory for government, construction and oil and gas work in Alberta. Your business can qualify for COR certification with as few as one employee, and some contracts require COR certification no matter your size.

Need to start work now?

A one-year COR to get you started takes 3 to 4 months. If a job can’t wait that long, a Temporary Letter for COR (TLC) through AASP can be in place in about a week for certain clients, and it’s good for a full year before requiring an audit.

What is COR?

The Certificate of Recognition (COR) shows that your health and safety management system has been audited by a certified COR auditor and meets Alberta’s standards. It’s issued by the Government of Alberta and co-signed by a Certifying Partner.

Why it pays

Common questions

How long is a COR good for?

Three years, as long as you keep it up. That means an audit every year. We keep your file and help you through each one, or we can run your whole program.

Do I have to sign a contract?

No. We don’t lock you in. Clients stay with us because we make it easy.

Do I need a year of records first?

For the 3-year COR, yes: you run your program for a year and keep records of inspections and safety meetings. Need it sooner? We can get you a one-year COR to start, in 3 to 4 months, without a year of records. Or, for certain contracts, a Temporary Letter for COR (TLC) in about a week.

How fast can I get a COR?

A one-year COR to get you started takes 3 to 4 months. Need to work sooner? For certain contracts, a Temporary Letter for COR (TLC) through AASP can be in place in about a week, and it’s good for a full year before you do an audit.

Do I need 10 employees to get a COR?

No. Your business can be COR certified with fewer than 10 employees, even with just one. A SECOR is only for companies under 10, so with 10 or more you require COR certification. Some bids still require a COR no matter your size; it depends on who you’re working with. See SECOR certification.

What score do I need?

80% overall, with no less than 50% in any one element.
