SECOR Certification

Fewer than 10 employees? Get certified in 2 to 4 weeks, and we will write and submit your audit for you.

If you have fewer than 10 employees, you qualify for the Small Employer Certificate of Recognition (SECOR). It shows clients across Alberta that you run a legislated safety program, and it opens the door to more work. We write your SECOR audit and submit it to the partnership, and we update your safety manual every year when we do your audit. Most companies are certified in 2 to 4 weeks.

SECOR and COR use the same safety program. The only difference is how it is audited. Some clients require a COR certification even if you qualify for a SECOR.

The complete SECOR package

  • 2 safety manuals (digital and printed binder)
  • 21 safety forms
  • Safe work practices
  • Formal hazard assessments
  • Job descriptions
  • Equipment inventory

Common questions

Who qualifies for SECOR?

Employers with fewer than 10 employees.

How fast can I get a SECOR?

Most companies are certified in 2 to 4 weeks, and it can be as quick as 2.

What’s the difference between SECOR and COR?

A SECOR audit is a self-audit, and as your safety consultant we can write it for you. COR certification requires an external audit by a certified auditor and is more comprehensive. The safety program is the same. However, a SECOR is faster and cheaper to get. It’s becoming more common for clients to require COR certification even if you qualify for a SECOR.

How long is a SECOR good for?

Your first SECOR is a one-year certificate if you have less than a year of records, and you can qualify with as little as 1 month of records. A one-year SECOR can only be done once. Once you have a full year of records, you can get a three-year SECOR certificate, which still needs a maintenance audit every year.

Does SECOR save me money on WCB?

It can. Certified small employers can save up to 20% on their WCB premiums through the Partnerships in Injury Reduction (PIR) program.

What happens if we grow past 10 employees?

You would require COR certification. Because we already keep your file, we build on the program you have instead of starting over.
